About
Maria Karkanaki (b. 1976) is a Greek photographer, born and based in Crete. She studied Graphic Design in Bournemouth University of England. As a graphic artist and owner of a small creative studio she has collaborated with many advertising agencies, publishing magazines of various content.
Her involvement in photography started in 2014. She attended photography seminars at Hellenic Photographic Society of Crete. She took part in numerous workshops with important photographers in order to develop and deepen her own photographic interpretation. Her work deals with contemporary social issues through a subjective approach. Also, she is interested in typologies and obsessions of human behaviour and how people experience life and interact within the constraints of time and space. She is currently working on a long-term project ‘Utopian Luster’, concerning the struggling connection between humans and nature.
